Breaking News!

MAY 9, 2020

It is with great disappointment we announce that we are postponing Airliners International 2020 PHX until July 7-10, 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting global health and our beloved travel industry in many ways. We had hoped that domestic and worldwide travel restrictions would have eased by July, but it looks like they will still be in force in the majority of the world. If we were to try to operate AI this year, the reduced attendance would be a financial disaster for the AI 2020 PHX committee.

The Tempe Mission Palms Hotel has allowed us to change our contract from 2020 to 2021 without penalty, and for this we are deeply grateful. The hotel, as are all travel providers, is dealing with a financial tragedy the likes of which we have never seen.

Soon after you get this email, you will receive notice that your room reservations for 2020 are cancelled. We will soon provide a link to re-instate your room reservations for AI 2021 PHX. All of your table bookings and show registrations will be automatically rolled over to the 2021 show; table layout and locations will stay the same. Other accommodations will be handled on case by case basis.

There have been a few attendees that have let me know that they still intend to travel to Phoenix even if the show was postponed. We are working with the hotel for a special rate for the July 9-11 weekend. We will try to have a cocktail reception Friday night if possible.

Thank you all for understanding. The WAHS and the Airliners International shows are volunteer organizations. We host the AI events for the love of the airline industry, which is shared by all of you. With the current situation, this was our only choice. Our website will be updated shortly with the most current information. Please be sure to sign-up for our email updates (if you haven't already done so). You will be notified of any updates and latest news via email going forward.

AI 2020 PHX

APRIL 23, 2020

AI 2020 PHX and the World Airline Historical Society wish to pass along the sad news that Jon Proctor of Sandpoint, ID passed away after a long illness on April 22. Jon was a founding member of WAHS, noted author, historian, former TWA'er, and all around great guy. We will miss him.

Update on AI 2020 PHX:

The AI 2020 PHX Planning Committee continues to monitor the world's COVID-19 situation. Hopefully we can use Airliners International as a way to return to some normalcy in our lives.
As of now, AI 2020 PHX will proceed as planned in July, unless otherwise directed by health authorities and government restrictions. One item we have to take into consideration is the contract we have with the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel. The AI committee has an agreement to use the room nights you as attendees book as a trade out to lower the cost of operating the show. Unless government authorities rule that shows of our size can not be held in July, the hotel can hold the show committee liable for the room night revenue.
Due to the current total shut down in Phoenix, the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel has been closed for all of April. We will be working with the hotel once they re-open to assess our options as to AI 2020 PHX.
Rest assured, we will never place any of our guests in harm's way. If we are not able to host AI 2020 PHX, we will advise as soon as possible.

MARCH 30, 2020
The AI 2020 PHX planning committee is keeping a close eye on the COVID-19 virus impact on the world, and the its stunning impact on the world's travel industry. As of now, AI 2020 PHX will proceed as planned in July, unless otherwise directed by health authorities and government restrictions. Rest assured, we will never place any of our guests in harms way. If we are not able to host AI 2020 PHX, we will advise as soon as possible.
Due to the current unknowns, we are delaying all tour booking until late April / early May. In the next few weeks, we will send out tour descriptions and prices.
Once we are certain that AI 2020 PHX can proceed, we will send out the tour booking details and timeline. We have received confirmation of three different tours courtesy of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. We are planning all day bus trips to The Pima Air & Space Museum on Wednesday and Friday. We are planning C-47/DC-3 and C-45/Beech 18 scenic flights. And more.
We have confirmed our Saturday banquet guest speaker, Howard D. Putnam, former CEO of Southwest and Braniff International. Howard will recount his days in the airline world, "From the Bag Room to the Board Room".  Read more about Howard D. Putnam HERE.
